interfaith evening celebrating our cultures…

Poetry Pals hosts programs in three Chicagoland "hubs":
1. Chicago Hub: 2011-2012 program includes partnership between the Islamic Community Center of Illinois (ICCI) Academy, Solomon Schechter Jewish Day School and Sacred Heart Schools.


2. Northern Suburb Hub: 2011-2012 program includes partnership between the Muslim Community Center Fulltime School (MCCFTS), Solomon Schechter Jewish Day School and Sacred Heart Schools.


3. Western Suburb/Lombard Hub: Current program includes partnership between Islamic Foundation School (IFS) in Villa Park and St. Pius X Catholic School in Lombard

Recent Program Partners

2011-2012 Solomon Schechter Day School, Muslim Community Center Fulltime School, Islamic Community Center of Illinois and Sacred Heart School: Implemented successful fall programs for the new Chicago Hub, and Northern Suburb Hub, with plans to continue programing through the spring. 2009-2011 Islamic Foundation School and St. Pius X: The 4th and 5th Graders from these schools have met for each of the last three years, and their poetry has been published in two different booklets and printed on posters that now hang in the schools. In 2009 student Charlie Mahay from St. Pius and poet-educator Adam Shames were interviewed on Different Drummers. Other video highlights here.

2009-2010 Muslim Community Center Fulltime School in Morton Grove and St. Brebeuf in Niles met for a Poetry Pals program.

2008-2009 KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation and City of Faith Church: Young members of the synagogue and church met and through poetry and art developed new friendships. The students also created a quilt that hangs at KAM. This program was co-sponsored by Changing Worlds.

2009 Diamond Lake School: Bilingual Spanish and regular English classes met to share poetry and music.

2008: Muslim Community Center Fulltime School in Morton Grove and Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Jewish Day School gathered for the first program ever.
